Map of inpatient services for people with learning disabilities in England

This map (produced by the Department of Adult Social Care in Calderdale Council) maps the postcodes of all the services for people with learning disabilities registered with the CQC as specialist hospitals as of August 2016. Many, many thanks to Calderdale for this, and for #7daysofaction for prompting it.

To accompany #7daysofaction (see here for more details and heartbreaking stories https://theatuscandal.wordpress.com/ ), this week I’m writing a series of short blogposts looking at the statistics we have about inpatient services for people with learning disabilities in England. One thing that people and families talk about is how hard it is if someone is moved to an inpatient service a long way from home and family. Valuing People Then - The Government Response to the LEDER report

Today (12 th September 2018) the government response to the Learning from Deaths Review (LeDeR) report was published (badged as coming from the Department for Health and Social Care and NHS England). The LeDeR project is being run by Bristol University (the same group who ran the Confidential Inquiry into the Premature Deaths of People with Learning Disabilities), and is working to put into place a national system for reviewing the deaths of people with learning disabilities across England. A report of progress so far on the LeDeR project was finally published in May 2018 (despite the date on the report being December 2017).
